EFDSS Chief Executive Katy Spicer will present Alan with the prestigious award in recognition of his outstanding contributions to folk music during the interval of a Folk Week performance at the Ham Marquee by Martin Simpson, Andy Cutting & Nancy Kerr on Tuesday 5 August that starts at 3.15pm.
The citation has been written and will be presented by Steve Heap – himself a festival organiser and head of the Association of Festival Organisers, as well as a Gold Badge recipient (2004).
Alan represents some of the foremost artists on the folk, roots and acoustic music scene through his agency, Alan Bearman Music. He has been Artistic and Marketing Director of Sidmouth Folk Week and also programmed other prestigious festivals including Towersey Festival, Folk in the Fall at the Southbank Centre, Ards International Guitar Festival as well as showcases and confernces for Folk Arts England and the Association of Festival Organisers.
Alan joins an illustrious list of Gold Badge holders including Cecil Sharp, Dr Ralph Vaughan Williams, A.L. Lloyd, The Watersons, EFDSS President Shirley Collins, MBE and EFDSS Vice President Eliza Carthy, MBE.
Maddy Prior, Sandra Kerr and David Leverton will also be inducted into the Gold Badge hall of fame during 2014/15.
